Check if a phone is stolen before you buy it
See whether a phone has been reported stolen or lost before money changes hands.
How do I check if a phone is stolen in Nigeria?
Dial *#06# on the phone to see its 15-digit IMEI, then type that number into the PhoneVault IMEI check at phonevault.pro/verify. It tells you straight away whether the phone has been reported stolen or lost on PhoneVault. The check is free and you do not need an account.
What you get
- Free for anyone — a buyer on the street does not need an account.
- Works with any phone that has an IMEI: iPhone, Samsung, Tecno, Infinix, Itel, Xiaomi and the rest.
- Dealers scan the IMEI barcode with their phone camera instead of typing it.
- Inside the app, every phone is checked again automatically when a dealer sells it or receives it from another shop.
How it works
Dial *#06# on the phone, or look in Settings → About. Write down the 15-digit IMEI.
Open phonevault.pro/verify and type the IMEI.
Read the result: “Clean” means nobody has reported it on PhoneVault; “Reported” means do not buy it.
Quick answers
What does a “clean” result mean?
It means no approved stolen or lost report exists for that IMEI on PhoneVault. PhoneVault checks its own reports, filed by owners and dealers and reviewed before they count. It is not a government or network-operator blacklist, so still ask the seller for a receipt.
Is the IMEI check free?
Yes. Anyone can check an IMEI on phonevault.pro/verify without paying or signing up.
Where do I find a phone’s IMEI?
Dial *#06# and it appears on screen. It is also printed on the box and shown in the phone’s settings. A dual-SIM phone has two; check both.
What should I do if the phone shows as reported?
Do not buy it. A reported result means the phone’s owner or a dealer has told PhoneVault it was stolen or lost. If you are a dealer, keep it out of your stock.
